School Health Services

The school health team, which CMCS’s registered school nurse leads, provides the following services but are not limited to: health evaluation (via clinic assistant), medication administration, management of complex or chronic health conditions, review of records for immunization compliance, management of emergency health needs, health screening, health counseling, identifying medical needs, and coordinate referrals to health care providers. The school health team’s primary goal is to promote health and wellness, keeping students in school and ready to learn.

Clinic Information

CMCS’s clinic is staffed by clinic assistants who are unlicensed assistive personnel supervised by the Head of School with delegated health services by the registered school nurse. The registered nurse is referred to as the registered school nurse, and the clinic assistants/licensed practical nurses are referred to as clinic assistants/assistive personnel. Clinic assistants serve a valuable role by performing many daily functions that keep the school clinic running smoothly and provide an essential link for registered school nurses.

School Health Clinics’ services include but are not limited to:

  • Administration of medication
  • First aid
  • Management of emergency medical needs, including an AED machine, stock epipens, and a stop bleed kit
  • Procedures
  • Health screenings
  • Assistance with the management of chronic medical conditions
  • Identify health concerns and refer to registered school nurses for follow-up and resources
  • Communication with parent/guardian, students, staff, and other school health team members

The school health staff provides care to our students. All student’s health care needs will be provided in a timely manner with respect and human dignity.

Consider a medical evaluation for:

  • Fever that last 3 or more days
  • Drainage from the ear
  • Cough that continues for several days
  • Repeated episodes of diarrhea or vomiting
  • Rash
  • Itchy eyes with clear or cloudy drainage
  • Sore throat, with or without fever
  • “Cold” symptoms that last more than one week

*A child who has fever with a temperature greater than 100 degrees (orally), has been vomiting, or has diarrhea should stay home for 24 hours AFTER the symptoms are gone.

*Children of all ages need 8-10 hours of sleep at night and good nutrition including adequate fluids (milk, juice, water).
